Moving from Frog to Frog

Single Player Game

Only one frog at a time can be the Hungry Frog in the single player game. The Hungry Frog has a different color text and hops the highest of all the frogs. In the above movie (where the screen size is tiny!), you can watch as the Hungry Frog changes from one to another. In the single player game, you can use mouse control move from frog to frog by clicking on frogs with the mouse. When you click on a frog, it becomes the new Hungry Frog. It speaks its name and starts to hop up and down. It will keep speaking its name periodically as long as it is hungry.

You can also move from frog to frog in the single player game using keyboard control. Because each time you move from one frog to another, the new frog speaks its name aloud, you always know which frog is the Hungry Frog even without looking at the game screen area where the frogs reside. This can be an advantage, because it means you can use the mouse just for eating bugs. You never have to move the mouse down out of the main bug area, and you can eat bugs a lot faster. There is 'wrap around' so if you are on the rightmost frog and move to the right you end up on the leftmost frog and if you are on the leftmost frog and move to the left you end up on the rightmost frog.

To use keyboard control in single player game just hit the 'space bar' to move one frog to the right, or use the '>' ('.') key to move to the right and the '<' (',') key to move to the left.

Keyboard Control Summary (Single Player Game)

Move Right: 'space bar', '>' ('.')

Move Left: '<' (',')

Two Player Game

In the two player game you move using the keyboard only.

Two players play simultaneously using the keyboard. Player One uses the '1', '2' keys to control his or her 'frog cursor' which is that player's colored bar under the frog. Player Two uses the '7', '8' keys to control his frog cursor. '1' and '7' move to the left one frog. '2' and '9' move to the right one frog. As in the single player game, there is 'wrap around' so if you are on the rightmost frog and move to the right you end up on the leftmost frog and if you are on the leftmost frog and move to the left you end up on the rightmost frog.

Both players can be on the same frog at the same time, and both players can simultaneously eat with the same frog or different frogs. Only ONE frog can eat any bug at any time however, so when a bug is selected for both players only one player will be able to eat it. See the Fun Menu for details on playing the two player game.

Eating Bugs

Single Player Game

In the Single Player Game there is only one way to eat bugs, and that is by clicking on them with the mouse. When you click on a bug, the Hungry Frog attempts to eat that bug.You can click on as many bugs as you want as fast as you want. As long as the bugs are correct, the frog will eat them. A frog can be eating many bugs at the same time. You can also click on a bug, have the frog start to eat that bug, move to a new frog (use the keyboard to be quick and keep the mouse in the bug area of the screen), and then click on a different bug for the different frog. That way you can have several frogs all eating different bugs at the same time.

Two Player Game

In the two player game players eat bugs using the keyboard only.

Player One eats by pressing the '3' key. Player Two eats by pressing the '9' key. Since both players can be on the same frog at the same time, both players can simultaneously eat with the same frog or different frogs. Only ONE frog can eat any bug at any time however, so when a bug is selected for both players only one player will be able to eat it. See the Fun Menu for details on playing the two player game.

Bonus Bugs

Bonus Bugs can appear at any time. They can give you free Score Points, free Time Bonus points, or upgrades to the current Hungry Frog's tongue thickness if they are Tongue Bonus bugs. Any frog can eat any bonus bug in both the single player and two player games. Bonus bugs works the same in both the single and two player games. Score bonus bugs give the player who ate the bug an increase in his or her score and also increase the overall socre in the two player game, just like in the solo game. Time bonus bugs give their overall time bonus to the game time bonus clock identically in both games. Tongue bonus bugs increase the Hungry Frog's tongue bonus tongue power up identically in both two and single player games. Read more about how Tongue Bonus Bugs work at the Game Dynamics page.

Always be ready to gobble any bonus bugs you see on screen, as they only linger for a short period of time!
